David Voelker

David Voelker is a Professor of Humanities and History. He has a PhD in United States History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is passionate about teaching the history of early America up to the Civil War, with a special focus on integrating First Nations, and he loves teaching courses on environmental history and environmental humanities, which explore the relationship between humans and the natural world.
 
He is the co-author, with Joel Sipress, of “The End of the History Survey Course: The Rise and Fall of the Coverage Model,” Journal of American History 97 (March 2011): 1050-1066. He co-edited, with Regan A. R. Gurung, Big Picture Pedagogy: Finding Interdisciplinary Solutions to Common Learning Problems (2018). He co-edits the Debating American History series, published by Oxford University Press, which includes his volume, The Powhatans and the English in the Seventeenth-Century Chesapeake (published July 2019).
