Project Description
"Phantom Power is a body of work that investigates the possibilities of life after death or rather the human impulse to believe in something greater than us, be it gods, the universe, or the unknown and unexplored regions of the cosmos.

The initial inspiration for Phantom Power was a conversation I had with Kathy, a muse and repeated subject from my previous body of work Sehnsucht. We were sitting in her kitchen when she told me about her husband's ancestors who haunt their home. She has experienced unexplained noises, aberrations, and even figures in antiquated dress working in the yard. I have spent many nights on their farm and personally not experienced anything paranormal.

The camera is a crucial tool for most paranormal investigators, so it was a natural step for me to become an amateur ghost hunter myself. Photography has been linked to the spirit world since the 1860's with the popularity of spirit photography and post-mortem portraits. Since its invention, photography has lent a sense of immortality to its subjects. In recent years the paranormal has received amplified media attention through numerous 'reality' television programs that sensationalize any phenomena for the camera. On the contrary, my approach is self-reflective and curious. To make the resulting images I have adopted both the traditional and contemporary methods of capturing the invisible, as well as employed my own interpretation of the magical and mystical."
