Research Interests
Development of chemical sensors and the use of sensors for environmental monitoring. Specific projects include: studying the occurrence of low dissolved oxygen and algal blooms (including HABs) in the Bay of Green Bay using LoRaWAN wireless communication buoys; using high frequency in-situ nitrate and phosphate sensors to understand complex processes occurring in Green Bay and the Lower Fox River; developing a microglow discharge atomic emission sensor for determining aqueous metals; developing a magnetoelastic resonance microbalance sensor for determining gas phase and aqueous phase analytes; and developing a smartphone-based colorimeter / fluorimeter for use in education, environmental monitoring, and industrial applications.
