Advanced Placement (AP)
If you’ve taken Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school, you could be eligible to earn college credit at UW-Green Bay. By achieving the required scores on your AP exams, you can skip certain college courses and save time and money toward your degree.
What are AP Exams?
An AP exam is a standardized test that allows high school students to demonstrate their knowledge of college-level material. If you score high enough, you can receive college credits for certain UW-Green Bay courses. For more information, visit the College Board's AP student resource site.
Who Can Earn AP Credit?
High school students who take AP exams and score at or above the UW-Green Bay credit threshold are eligible to receive credits.
When & Where to take AP Exams
AP exams are typically administered in high schools each year in May. Check with your school to find the exact dates and locations.
Cost for AP Exams
Each AP exam costs $96. However, financial aid may be available for eligible students, so be sure to ask your school’s AP coordinator for details.

How AP Credits Work at UWGB
AP exam scores translate into specific course credits at UW-Green Bay. For example, score 3 on AP Biology to earn 4 credits for BIOL 201 and 202. Or score 4 on AP Chemistry to earn 5 credits for CHEM 211/213. Use the table below to check how your AP scores translate to UW-Green Bay credits.
Things to Know About AP Credits
- Credits are only awarded for specific UW-Green Bay courses or department electives.
- You cannot earn credit for a course that’s already on your transcript.
- Retroactive and AP credits may not transfer to other colleges or universities, so always verify transfer policies.
