About Social Work
Opportunities Galore
We focus on field experience to help you spark change.
At UW-Green Bay, we are deeply connected to the community we serve. Numerous community partners mean you have the opportunity to complete field education, which is similar to a social work internship, in a variety of settings. Through our comprehensive program that integrates field education with coursework, you’ll be prepared to obtain state certification and pursue a variety of career paths.
Field Education
As one of the most vital aspects of your time in our program, field education helps you build experience.
Tuition Aid
Ease financial stress and make college more accessible by exploring scholarships and stipends.
Honor Society
Connect with like-minded peers through the Phi Alpha Honor Society, the only honor society specific to social work.
Emphases
Three distinct emphases allows you to customize your education to align with your career goals.
General
The general emphasis teaches all the skills required to be a generalist practitioner. You will learn how to apply a strengths-based change process across system levels, enabling you to work with any client system, from individuals to communities.
Child Welfare
If you choose child welfare, you may work with families in crisis, advocating for their rights and ensuring the safety of children. Required coursework for this emphasis focuses on child and family development, cultural considerations, relevant policies, and learning about child welfare systems and evidence-based practices.
Behavioral Health
If you choose behavioral health, you will gain additional knowledge about working with persons who have mental health and/or substance use challenges. Required coursework for this emphasis focuses on how to address crisis situations, understanding substance use and mental health diagnoses, along with an introduction to psychopharmacology.
Annual Symposium & Celebration
Celebrating the success of our students.
The 2024 Social Work Symposium and Celebration will be on Friday, May 3, 2024 in Phoenix Rooms A, B and C. The Symposium will be from 2:00-3:00 pm and the Celebration will take place from 3:00-4:00 pm.
