Professional Bio

Dr. Gaurav Bansal is an associate professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) / Statistics at the Austin E. Cofrin School of Business at UW-Green Bay. He received his Ph.D. in MIS from University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 2008 and his M.B.A. from Kent State University, Ohio in 2002. He completed his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Gorakhpur, India in 1996. Dr. Bansal is currently teaching courses in business statistics and MIS. Dr. Bansal's current research interests are in the areas of trust, privacy & security concerns, privacy assurance mechanisms, text mining and social network analytics. His research has examined online trust violation and rebuilding in relation to privacy breaches, trade-offs involving discount and implicit privacy protection, theoretical and empirical examination of privacy and security concerns, role of privacy assurance mechanisms, cost sensitive linear regression, cultural examination of web images, and online B2B partnerships. Dr. Bansal has published in premier MIS journals such as Journal of Management Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Organizational Computing and Electronic Commerce, and Journal of Computer Information Systems. His research has won several accolades at national and international levels. His papers were nominated for the best paper award at Americas Conference for Information Systems (AMCIS) 2010, Peru and International Conference for Information Systems (ICIS) 2008, Paris, and received best paper awards at Midwest Association for Information Systems (MWAIS) conferences in 2010, 2011 and 2014. Dr. Bansal was Wisconsin Teaching Fellow for the year 2011-2012. He is also a proud alum of Leadership Green Bay program (2010-2011), which is an initiative of Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Bansal served as conference chair for 7th Midwest AIS Conference 2012 hosted by UW-Green Bay. He served as President-elect for Midwest Association for Information Systems in 2013-2014. He regularly serves as minitrack chair / co-chair for AMCIS conferences. He also serves as AE for ICIS and ECIS conferences. Before starting his academic career, he worked as Quality Assurance Engineer for General Motors India (1998-2000) and Daewoo Motors India (1996-1998).
