Campus Visit Overview

What is Phuture Phoenix Day?

The Phuture Phoenix program, based at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, is a coordinated effort to inspire academic success and alert children to post-secondary educational opportunities.

Involvement in Phuture Phoenix Begins With...

  1. Training UW-Green Bay students as role models
At the beginning of each academic year, students are recruited through campus outreach endeavors. UW-Green Bay students are trained in the procedures and requirements for becoming a Phuture Phoenix role model.

  1. Inviting Fifth Graders From Local Public Schools
Fifth graders from local public schools are invited to participate in Phuture Phoenix. Selected schools receive materials from UW-Green Bay early in September.

  1. Phuture Phoenix Day at UWGB
All invited fifth grade students and their teachers are bussed to UW-Green Bay on the scheduled day to tour the campus, participate in planned activities, and get to know their role models.  Each pair of UW-Green Bay role models is assigned to one group of 7 to 10 fifth graders.

  1. Post-visit (Green Bay Area Public Schools only)
UW-Green Bay role models will visit the GBAPS fifth grade classrooms during the week following the Phuture Phoenix field trip to answer questions and initiate ongoing contact with fifth grade students.  Role models are encouraged to make consistent contact with their students throughout the school year (they will pre-arrange any school visits with teachers).

  1. Follow-up Contacts (All Schools)
After the campus visit, all UWGB Role Models are required to make three follow-up contacts with their fifth grade groups during the Fall semester.  These contacts are intended to remind students of the connections they made at UWGB and keep thinking about their post-secondary experience.  Follow-up contacts are prescribed by the Phuture Phoenix program to ensure that all fifth graders receive follow-ups.
