Visitor Parking Permits

Visitors, who are operating a vehicle that does NOT have a parking permit assigned to it, can park on campus in any unmarked general use lot or parking stall (see regulation page for more detail on lot locations) up to five (5) days per semester without purchasing parking. We track usage by vehicle license plate, not by the person operating the car or the reason for the visit.

We no longer provide free parking beyond these five (5) free visits per semester. If you are going to use more parking services, please purchase a permit or pay for parking using the Park Mobile. Our past practice was simply not sustainable and we must move to a system that more accurately represents the "true cost" of operation. Not only for parking, but also of individual campus departments who benefited from free parking permits. The issuance of free permits not only obscured some of these departmental operational costs, but also puts Parking at a disadvantage due to the increased wear and tear on the lots with no cost recovery.

Emeritus

Per UWS, we were made aware of a need to immediately stop providing free parking passes to emeriti. Wis. Stat. § 16.843 requires any state office buildings in municipalities with state-subsidized public transit to charge for parking, hence, why parking needs to be charged for state-employees. Therefore, per Regent Emeritus Policy RPD 20-26, we are required to charge employeed emeriti the same parking rates as all other employees under the schedule promulgated per Wis. Stat. § 16.843.
