Summer Credit Options

Become a 
Summer Scholar

Distinguish yourself on your college application.

Do something for your future and distinguish yourself on your college application by taking an online college course this summer. The GEAR UP program gives high school students an opportunity to take an online college course and get a head start on college. All course costs will be covered by GEAR UP funds and textbooks will be shipped directly to students' homes.

Transfer Credits

Transfer credits to all UW schools and most private or out-of-state schools.

Earn Early College Credit

Students will work with their GEAR UP Education Specialist, UW-Green Bay's GEAR UP Services team and their school counselor to select courses and apply to the program. Courses are one semester long. 

Students will be required to follow campus timelines and policies for dropping and withdrawing courses. Drop and withdrawal deadlines can be found under the Registration Calendar on the Registrar's webpage.

ANTHRO 100: Varieties of World Culture

The variety of ways of life that exist in the world and the concepts of culture, cultural relativity, and ethnocentrism. Representative case studies of world cultures are considered.

6 Week (6/17/24 to 7/28/24)

THEATRE 211: World Theatre and Performance

An introduction to the performing arts through multiple global perspectives. Key genres and styles emerging from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe will be studied in depth by examining performance traditions as they transform in relation to changing historical and social conditions.

6 Week (6/17/24 to 7/28/24)

WOST 203: Gender in Popular Culture

In this course, we will examine the ways that women and gender have been portrayed and are currently portrayed through the media, television and movies, popular music, internet, periodicals, popular fiction, newspapers, and other cultural artifacts. With readings ranging from critical theory to popular fiction, we will speculate on the impact of and sources for popular portrayals of women, in particular, and the social construction of gender, race, sexuality, and other social categories. The course will also encourage students to question agency in the creation and consumption of mass culture. Issues of race, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, and physical ability will be important as we explore and critically examine the forms and functions of popular culture.

*UW-Green Bay breaks may not align with high school breaks; students will be expected to complete assignments and coursework following the UW-Green Bay calendar, even if their high school is on break.

After you complete your course orientation session, you will earn a digital badge. You will also earn a second digital badge for completing the course reflection at the end of the course.

Email your unofficial transcript to Ben Berndt at gearup@uwgb.edu. You may do so yourself or request that your DPI Education Specialist or school counselor email it.

Admission Requirements

Students must:

  • Be enrolled in the GEAR UP Program; and
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher*; and
  • Be entering grade 10, 11, or 12; and
  • Be serious about the commitment required to take a college course.
