GPS Courses
Helping you
Learn & Grow
What are the GPS classes all about?
The Gateway to Phoenix Success (GPS) mission is to make the transition to college smoother by layering academic and campus support. You'll earn college credit in the GPS courses while you gain an introduction to campus life and learn to apply strategies for student success.
GPS Courses
All new UW-Green Bay students will take a First Year Seminar course during their first semester, and depending on your GPS support tier, you may be enrolled in GPS Tools for Success class in your first semester as well. These classes were created to help ease the transition to college by providing faculty, staff and peer mentor support along with the opportunity to learn about and develop skills needed to be a successful student. In your second semester, if we find you could still benefit from continued support you will be enrolled in GPS Tools for Success 2. Read on to find out more about each of these courses.
GPS Tools for Success 1
GPS Tools for Success (Comm Sci 150), is a 1-credit course designed to build skills critical to college, career and personal success. Tools for Success complements the First Year Seminar courses and builds off of content learned in GB Orientation and GB Welcome. GPS Tools for Success instructors are UW-Green Bay staff who serve as an additional connection to campus resources and help support and guide GPS Students through their first semester at UW-Green Bay. Completing GPS Tools for Success is a requirement for most GPS students during your first semester.
