Community Based Learning Center

The Center for Civic Engagement together with the City of Green Bay is converting a house purchased by the city at 158 N Maple into a community-based learning center, The center will house 5-6 students plus the Center for Civic Engagement's AmeriCorps VISTA Member who will work with and help coordinate many of the activities, In exchange for reduced rent, students will commit to a year-long community-based learning project with local organizations, nonprofits, community groups or the city to gain valuable practical experience, to foster community development and strengthen connections between campus and the city.

The purpose of this project is to create the Center for Community Based Learning (The Center). The Center will provide affordable housing while also giving students the opportunity for an immersive learning experience, matching students with local nonĀprofits and neighborhood associations to provide meaningful internships resulting in new programs and projects that will impact the surrounding neighborhood and community. The Center will the be first of its kind in the UW-System and the state of Wisconsin.
