SAIL Community

Set Sail

Our community is your place to thrive.

Located in a county with a higher percentage of LGBTQIA+ population than the national average, UW-Green Bay is committed to building an inclusive campus. Part of that is our Safe and Inclusive Living (SAIL) community—you deserve a safe and welcoming space to live.

About the SAIL Community

The Safe and Inclusive Living (SAIL) community is a campus housing option in which students agree to share a university apartment with others regardless of the occupants’ sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender expression, and/or sexual orientation. This community is an open and supportive environment for everyone to be their authentic selves and be surrounded by other’s who value those same things. While this space was created out of a need for LGBTQIA+ students to have a safe floor, allies can also self-select to live on this floor, so long as they agree to abide by the Community Living Agreement. The philosophy is simple: all on-campus residents deserve to feel safe and welcome in their residential community.

An Entire Floor

We have a SAIL Community in our first-year residence halls and returning student private room apartments housing. The intent of the community is to give LGBTQIA+ students a place where they can truly be themselves. Our goal is that the community extends beyond their apartment to the entire floor.

Anonymous & Safe

As a SAIL resident, you are not requested nor expected to disclose your identities as a part of your application to Housing. Housing is prohibited by law from sharing any student’s location with others. Therefore, no one can find out from Housing and Residential Education that you live in SAIL.

You Are Not Alone

You are not alone! There is a Resident Mentor (student) and Area Coordinator (professional staff) that are always accessible to help if difficulties arise within an apartment.

Meet Your Resident Mentor

“My favorite part about this job is getting to meet new people and learning about the great diversity we have on-campus. I love talking to fellow LGBTQ+ students and allies because it allows me to grow as a new developing leader as well as be the voice for all SAIL residents.”
