I was out of town during
this period so some new phenology observations were missed. Fortunately
(?), this was a cold, rainy period and there were few new plant species
flowering. During that interval Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa
pratensis) flowered widely. Other conspicuous species flowering
within this period include Virginia Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum
virgininanum) and Yellow Goat's-beard (Tragopogon dubius).

The very earliest Kentucky
Bluegrass flowers (Poa pratensis) have begun releasing
pollen in the City of Green Bay. These are only the plants on extreme
sites, such as along the south side of buildings, etc. The general
flowering may not begin for several days. For 12 years of phenology
observations in Green Bay, the average first day of general flowering
(anthesis) for Kentucky Bluegrass is May 29, and the earliest was
May 16. If you are allergic to Bluegrass pollen--get ready.
