Academic Advisors

  • Assist in exploring educational options and making informed decisions
  • Advise on curriculum, enrollment, transfer credit, degree/graduation requirements, and university policies
  • Connect students to campus resources and services
  • Support in developing and achieving goals

Other Advisors & Mentors

  • Academic Advisors: Advise on majors, classes, registration, degree/graduation requirements, policy 
  • Career Advisors: Assist in exploring career fields, majors, jobs, and developing professional skills
  • Faculty Mentors: Help with questions and experiences related to your major and career field

How Do I Earn a College Degree?

What is a credit?

  • A credit is a unit of measurement that equals three hours of course work per week
  • To earn a bachelor's degree, students must earn 120 credits made up of major/minor courses, general education requirements, graduation requirements and electives
  • Most courses are three credits
  • To graduate in four years, students must average 15 credits per semester, or 30 credits per year
  • 15 credits equals 45 hours of work per week

Course Offerings

UW-Green Bay has four semesters/terms

  • Fall & Spring semesters: 14 weeks
  • January Interim (J-Term): three weeks
  • Summer courses: Vary from four, six, eight and 10-week courses

Core General Education Requirements

  • “CGER” or “Gen Ed”
  • Builds employability skills
  • Think “outside the box” of your major/career
  • Help you perform better in upper-level classes
  • Many gen ed courses are often required for your major
  • Helps you find what you like or don’t like

Placement

  • Writing Placement – ACT/SAT English Score
  • Math Placement – WMPT Score
  • Modern Language – Talk with your advisor
  • Music – Talk with your advisor

What Do I Need to Do Before I Enroll?

  • Your UWGB Experience
    • NCAA Athlete, Gateways to Phoenix Success, Major/Career Exploration, Working in fall,
      Military Service, Transferring
  • Review First Year Seminar packet
    • Write 3-4 options on worksheet
    • Example: 2364 – Kindness Matters

How and When Do I Enroll?

  • Registration appointment this afternoon by group name
  • Meet 1:1, in-person with a professional advisor.
    • Maximum of two guests with student in appointment
    • Opportunity for follow-up appointments this summer!
  • Student-focused conversation/questions
  • Review Gen Ed handout throughout the day
    • Circle some options in multiple categories!
  • Resources to connect with today

What Do I Need to Do the Rest of Summer?

  • Familiarize yourself with SIS, Navigate and Canvas
  • Explore your Stellic Degree Planner
  • Begin time-blocking your schedule 
  • Contact your academic advisor about schedule questions
    • You will have “holds” on some of your classes!
  • Be aware of FERPA
  • Check your UWGB email daily
