Communication Assistant
Term: Fall 2026 Semester (with potential to extend into spring semester if mutually agreed)
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours a week for 14 weeks
Compensation: $15 per hour. (Internship credit optional)
Starting Date: First day of spring semester classes or as agreed upon
Supervisor: Jena Richter Landers, Communications Manager, Marketing and University Communication
About this Position:
The Communication Assistant plays an important role in supporting UW–Green Bay’s content, storytelling, and communication efforts. This position offers hands-on experience in a professional marketing and communications environment, with opportunities to strengthen writing skills, build a polished portfolio, and gain exposure to strategic communication work in higher education. We intentionally tailor the role to each student’s interests, strengths, and career goals to ensure meaningful learning and growth.
This student role will support a wide range of content needs for UW–Green Bay’s academic programs, admissions, advancement, alumni relations, events, and internal audiences.
Responsibilities:
The student will gain byline opportunities, digital content experience, and a strong understanding of Universitycommunication workflows. Duties may include:
Writing and Editing
- Draft and edit feature stories, blogs, student profiles, and news releases
- Assist with writing and assembling weekly or monthly enewsletters
- Contribute content for internal communication channels (e.g., The Log, intranet)
- Proofread content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency with University style
Digital Content & Publishing
- Prepare and publish content using WordPress
- Assist with managing and updating ongoing content calendars
- Support social media efforts by drafting posts, researching trends, and helping with basic planning and scheduling
Marketing & Communication Support
- Conduct background research for story development and social content
- Help with archiving, file management, and analytics tracking
- Participate in creative brainstorming for marketing campaigns, events, and storytelling opportunities
- Support other projects as aligned with student strengths, interest areas, and office needs
Qualifications:
- Selfstarter; able to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
- Basic computer literacy and social media proficiency
- Familiarity with AP Style preferred but not required
- Experience with campus publications (Fourth Estate, Voyageur Magazine, etc.) beneficial but not required
Skills to be developed:
- A professional portfolio featuring published stories, social content, and digital writing
- Hands-on experience with enewsletters, digital publishing, and content strategy
- Strengthened writing, editing, and communication skills
- Experience working within a professional marketing and communication team
- Networking and relationship-building to support future career opportunities
