Up To the Challenge
Starting college for the first time can be challenging. Without a parent that can show to the way, it can be even more difficult. You may feel like you have to figure out how to apply for financial aid or register for classes all on your own. You are not alone. Staff, faculty and even some of your peers are here to provide you and your family the information and tools you need to navigate college. Together, we'll help you build the skills and networks you need to succeed in college.
Mentoring
Our mentoring program can help connect you with professional mentors who can help you set goals and serve as a trusted role model to support you through tough times.
Join the Club
Connect with fellow peers, faculty and staff to help you adapt to college life. First Gen Phoenix meets during the school year on Tuesdays at 5:30pm in the 1965 Room University Union.
Living Learning
Build a support network and lifelong friendships with others experiencing a similar transition to college in our first generation housing where you live on the same floor and can attend class together too.
Be Brave. Go For It.
"Go for whatever opportunities UWGB has to offer. Even if you don't think you're going to get the position—the internship, the research assistantship—go for it. ...There's no reason you shouldn't go for it. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. So, please just go for it. Be brave. Take the shot to do it because it's paid off in the long run and it will continue to do so."
