Meet Our Director

Dr. Young began her career teaching high school, and she now studies the rhetoric and discourse  communities of American high schools.  Her other academic interests include creative nonfiction, gender and embodiment theories, and critical discourse analysis.  More than any of this, she loves to teach and work with students--both in the classroom and in the writing center.

Writing Center Philosophy

Dr. Young believes in a highly individualized approach to writing center tutoring.
If a student wants to talk through idea formation and essay structuring, we can do that; if a student struggles with grammar and wants someone to mark up his or her essay for errors, we can do that too (and while we do it we'll explain what we're doing, so that the interaction not only strengthens the current essay but also facilitates learning that will benefit future writing endeavors). She wants the Writing Center to be a vibrant and dynamic campus space that welcomes all writers at every stage of their education.
