The only place to really learn about the theatre is a real theatre. That's why our facilities are designed to nurture and inspire artists and artisans like you. Explore all the different aspects of theatrical life with access to tech shops, acting studios, experimental theatre spaces and more.

University Theatre

Our proscenium, or "picture frame," theatre is a classic and intimate setting for our mainstage productions. Additionally, music events, recitals, and our biennial DanceWorks Concert are also produced and presented in this space.

Jean Weidner Theater

Located in The Weidner, the Jean Weidner Theatre is a 90-seat flexible classroom and performance space for the University Performing Arts. It's furnished with a dressing room, control booth and stage lighting. It is an intimate space frequently used for University Theatre Mainstage and Studio productions.

Experimental Lab

Theatre Hall 110, also called Experimental Lab, is a flexible black-box space located directly behind the University Theatre. It's equipped with a small control booth and shares many of the University Theatre resources. In addition to serving as a classroom and rehearsal space, TH110 can be used as a light lab, a building space, and a drafting studio.

Acting Studio

Located on the second floor of Theatre Hall, TH212 Acting Studio is a primary classroom space for performance and directing. It's equipped with rehearsal furniture and props, mirrors, mats and a movement floor, and is frequently used as a rehearsal space for University Theatre productions.

Dance Studio

Theatre Hall 132 Dance Studio is the primary studio classroom for dance and choreography. Equipped with mirrors, a dance floor and bars, TH132 is also used for Musical Theatre and Danceworks rehearsals. Men's and Women's locker rooms are conveniently located nearby.

Scene Shop

Theatre 111 Scene Shop is directly connected to the University Theatre. Used for scenic construction, technical theatre and practicum classes, TH111 is a fully equipped scenic studio. Auxiliary spaces in the scene shop include a light lab, stage management office and the office of the Theatre Technical Director.

Costume Shop

Theatre Hall 131 Costume Shop is located on the first floor of Theatre Hall. Used for production costume construction, costume technology classes and practicum, TH131 houses laundry and changing/fitting areas. The costume shop is next to the primary University Theatre dressing room where stage makeup is taught. In addition, a dyeing studio is located next to the scene shop.

CAD & Sound Lab

Theatre Hall 210 CAD and Sound Lab. The inventory of TH210 is ever-growing to meet the needs of advances in theatre technology. TH210 is used as a primary teaching and lab space for Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CAD) and Sound Design. Current software includes Sound Edit 16, Vectorworks, Virtual Light Lab and Lightwright. The lab is also equipped with analog and digital recording technology.
