What makes a First-Year Student?
You're a first-year student if...
- You’re graduating high school (or have graduated but haven’t attended college).
- You’re ready to start your first college experience (or you have less than 15 credits from another college or university to transfer).
- Even if you took college classes while you were enrolled in high school, you're still considered a first-year student applicant.
Not quite? See if you should apply as a Transfer or Returning student.

High School Records
How you prepare in high school can give you an edge in college. We look at your transcript for courses, grades and trends over time. The table below shows minimum requirements.
Spotty Grades?
If your high school grades weren’t perfect, that’s okay—we see your potential and know you're not defined by grades. The Gateway to Phoenix Success (GPS) Program is designed to support students who have faced academic challenges, providing resources and guidance to help you thrive at UW-Green Bay.
Optional Test Scores
Standardized tests aren't good measures of what it takes to be a Phoenix. So, scores from ACT or SAT tests aren't required to apply to UW-Green Bay. However, they're helpful to submit for scholarships and program requirements.

"Try not to go into college with expectations. College is not what it looks like in the movies; it is personal for everyone, and how someone else experiences it more than likely won’t be the same way you do. So just let college come as it is and allow it to become your own."
