Course Description

This four-hour ethics and boundaries workshop focuses on implementation of the most recent changes in the Code of Ethics and changes in practice as a result of these revisions as well as the influence of social and cultural shifts.  Topics to be explored include technological delivery of services, promotion of anti-racist and inclusive practice, and self-care dimensions. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine recent trends within social work and human services.
  • Consider ethical issues and dilemmas which can arise with the rapidly changing social environment.
  • Explore how personal dimensions and professional practices interface with current trends.

About the Trainer

Joan Groessl, MSW, PhD, LCSW

Joan Groessl, MSW, PhD, LCSW

Joan Groessl, MSW, PhD, LCSW is a full professor and Director of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She earned her PhD from Marian University in 2013 with an emphasis in leadership studies. Prior to joining the university in 2008, Joan worked in county mental health programs for 20 years doing an array of services including therapy, case management, outreach, prevention, Community Support and Comprehensive Community Services program administration, and clinical supervision.  Dr. Groessl’s research interests include ethics and boundaries, continuing education, leadership, and social work practice. Joan is active on several non-profit boards of directors and with the National Association of Social Workers-Wisconsin Chapter, currently as chair of the Continuing Education Committee and Secretary of the Board.
