Course Description
The postpartum period is a critical window of change, where supporting maternal mental health has the potential to shape families and generations for years to come. This session explores the unique time of childbirth from a mental health perspective, highlighting risk factors, diagnosis, assessment tools, supports and interventions. Gain the insight and tools needed to provide meaningful, informed support when it matters most.
Learning Objectives:
- After participating in this session, attendees should be able to identify risk factors and common diagnosis associated with postpartum mental health concerns.
- After participating in this session, attendees should be able to demonstrate knowledge of assessment tools to evaluate postpartum mental health symptoms and client needs.
- After participating in this session, attendees should be able to describe supports and interventions available for postpartum clients, including therapy, support groups, and community resources.
- After participating in this session, attendees should be able to apply strategies to support emotional regulation and adjustment during the postpartum period.
About the Trainer
Julie Kull, LCSW
Julie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from the University of St. Thomas/College of St. Catherine and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She has over eight years of experience specializing in reproductive and maternal mental health, including infertility, pregnancy loss, and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.Julie is the owner of Kull Counseling, a private practice based in Madison, Wisconsin, and provides virtual services to clients throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. She has received advanced training in maternal and reproductive mental health through the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Postpartum Support International, The Seleni Institute, and the OCD Training School. She is also trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. In addition to her clinical work, Julie has presented on self-care and the grief of pregnancy loss and infertility. She is a member of the Madison Area Pregnancy and Postpartum Collective, where she previously served as a board member. She has facilitated a free pregnancy loss support group for the Madison community and volunteered with Bereaved Parents of Madison.
