Course Description

The sandwich generation, adults caring for both aging loved ones and dependent children, is growing rapidly and placing increasing pressure on individuals, families, and the workforce. This session explores the realities of sandwich caregiving, with a focus on the financial, professional, and emotional strain experienced by working caregivers, particularly women.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how caregiving responsibilities impact employment, income, and long-term financial security, as well as how these pressures show up in the workplace through absenteeism, presenteeism, and burnout. The session will also highlight the role of community-based supports, including Adult Day Services, in helping caregivers remain engaged, productive, and supported. This session is designed to provide practical insight and actionable strategies to better support sandwich caregivers while strengthening both family stability and workforce sustainability.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the key characteristics and demographics of sandwich generation caregivers and understand the scope of their impact on families and the workforce.
  • Analyze the financial and professional consequences of caregiving, including effects on income, career progression, productivity, absenteeism, and presenteeism.
  • Explore practical strategies and support systems, including Adult Day Services, that help caregivers maintain employment, reduce stress, and improve overall wellbeing.

About the Trainer

Tia Sauceda

Tia Sauceda

I bring both professional and personal experience to this topic. I have spent my career working in Adult Day Services and caregiver support, where I’ve worked closely with families navigating complex care needs across generations. Through this work, I’ve seen firsthand how caregivers, especially women, balance employment, parenting, and the increasing demands of supporting aging loved ones.

In addition to my professional background, I have personally witnessed family members take on the role of sandwich caregivers. That experience has given me a deeper understanding of the emotional, financial, and logistical challenges they face on a daily basis.
Together, my career in community-based care and my personal exposure to caregiving dynamics allow me to bring both practical insight and real-world perspective to this training series.
