Rhetoric in Real Life

This six-course program aims to translate the academic discipline of applied rhetoric into a powerful set of skills that anyone can understand and use to improve their own lives, in all kinds of ways. We will be learning not only about rhetoric or rhetorical tools but how to apply rhetorical principles and tactics to work and social situations, and family and romantic relationships.

Creator of the Burned Haystack Dating Method, Writer, Associate Dean & Professor, UW-Green BayJennie publishes work in humor, feminism, applied rhetoric, dating dynamics and education. Her writing can be seen in McSweeney’s, Ms. Magazine, The Independent, Huffpost, Education Week, Inside Higher Ed and elsewhere. She is trained in classical and applied rhetoric. Previously, she wrote a textbook on high school culture using applied rhetoric, critical discourse analysis and primary metaphor analysis methodologies
Retirement Planning Fundamentals

Whether you are nearing retirement, already retired, or beginning to develop a retirement plan, you can benefit from a wealth of real-world information and strategies for retirement success. This course focuses on how you may prepare for a comfortable retirement and introduces you to concepts and strategies that may help you handle your day-to-day finances, potentially reduce your taxes and manage your investments. What’s more, it will discuss how you can assess your current financial situation and develop a personalized plan that may help you pursue your retirement goals. The presenters teach the material in a way that is easy to understand, using real-life examples that may be applied to your situation. The course is presented in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where your participation and questions are encouraged! In this course, you will learn:
- How to calculate retirement needs
- Setting financial and lifestyle goals
- The importance of estate planning

Sulay is a financial advisor and Certified Financial Planner™ at Robert W. Baird & Co. He has been teaching adult education courses on retirement planning and personal finance since 2015.
Alexandra Spangler, CFP®
Alexandra believes in a holistic approach to financial planning and enjoys customizing portfolios specific to clients’ needs and goals with a specific interest in family, legacy, and estate planning.
