The Evolution of EDRTs in Wisconsin

An Elder Death Review Team (EDRT) is a multidisciplinary team of professionals that comes together to examine the circumstances surrounding the death or near-death of older adults. By reviewing individual, community, and systemic factors before, during, and after a fatal incident, EDRTs aim to identify risk factors, protection gaps, and opportunities for prevention. This collaborative process uses data and lived experience to strengthen systems, improve responses, and help prevent future tragedies — ultimately enhancing the safety and well-being of older adults.

With a grant from the National Center for State and Tribal Elder Justice Coalitions at Lifespan of Greater Rochester, a subgroup of the Wisconsin Elder Justice Coalition developed a statewide EDRT process, a toolkit with resources, and a pilot program to add at least 1 team, doubling the number of teams in the state.

EDRT Toolkit & Resources

Everything You Need to Start a Team

Researching national resources, the challenges and successes of Wisconsin's existing EDRT and teams from three other states, the EDRT Committee created a statewide process, toolkit, and resources for coordinators to start and sustain their teams.

We house these resources on the WEJC website to make them available to anyone, anywhere, at any time.
