News Media Guidelines
If you're a member of the press and want to cover something at UW-Green Bay, follow these guidelines.
Media Access to Campus Buildings
Public areas of UW-Green Bay buildings are generally open to members of the news media during normal public hours. You don't need advance permission to be on campus in these areas. Letting our news and media relations team know you’re visiting is appreciated, especially if your presence may prompt questions or media inquiries. Please email us at boucark@uwgb.edu.
Private living areas, including residence hall rooms and residential hallways, aren't open to the media or the public.
Students may choose to speak with the media at their discretion. Students aren't required to participate in interviews and make their own decisions about media requests.
Classrooms aren't open to the media while classes are in session. News and media relations staff can assist with coordination when needed.
Covering Campus Events
Members of the media are welcome to cover most public UW-Green Bay events and activities.
Some events—such as theatrical performances, concerts or lectures—may have photography or recording limitations, including restrictions on flash or designated shooting locations. If you have questions about access or restrictions, contact news and media relations before the event.
Events that require tickets may also require media credentials for access.
Media coverage is welcome at commencement ceremonies. Photographers should check in with a University staff member on site to confirm approved equipment locations.
When newsworthy speakers or guests visit campus, news and media relations staff work to facilitate appropriate media access and interviews as details are confirmed.
Video & Photography on Campus
You may record video or take photographs in public campus spaces without prior approval.
Recording isn't permitted in areas that aren't open to the public, including residence hall living spaces or classrooms during active instruction, unless permission has been granted in advance.
During emergencies or active incidents, access to areas normally open to the media may be limited at the direction of emergency personnel. In those situations, follow instructions provided at the scene.
Release of Student Information
UW-Green Bay may release limited directory information about current or former students, such as enrollment status, major fields of study and degree completion dates. Students may restrict the release of this information. When a restriction is in place, the University cannot share those details without the student’s written consent. Student records are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Parking for Media
Parking at UW–Green Bay is managed through a virtual permit system.
If you are visiting campus occasionally, you may park in academic parking lots without registering up to five days per semester. After five visits, parking registration is required.
If you plan to park on campus for more than five days, you may purchase a short-term permit through the ParkMobile app. If you don't have access to a smartphone, you can obtain a parking permit by calling 877-727-5003.
Before arriving on campus, review parking regulations to avoid citations.

One of four NCAA Division I institutions in the state of Wisconsin, the UW-Green Bay Athletic Communications office assists and answers all media requests for Phoenix coaches and student-athletes.

The Weidner
The Weidner Center is home for UW-Green Bay Music, Theatre and Dance, community events and productions, and performances by visiting artists and touring companies.
