Staff from the Oneida Nation and UW-Green Bay will lead campers on a journey to explore the amazing and beautiful natural world for their fifth annual camp! During the first and last days of this 3-day camp, students will hike marshes, grasslands, and forests on Oneida Nation land and discover plants, plant medicines, birds, bugs, frogs, and other wildlife at four sites Oneida has restored from agricultural lands. Students will participate in scavenger hunts, search for and identify wildlife, catch fish and invertebrates, and gain hands-on experiences with nature. Oneida Tribal Elder and Cultural Leader Randy (Tehahuko’tha) Cornelius will take the campers on a cultural and spiritual journey, helping them connect with nature and Oneida culture. On the second day, campers will visit the UW-Green Bay campus, making stops at the Center for First Nations Education to meet Indigenous professors, the Pride Center, and the Multicultural Resource Center. Campers will be offered the option to participate in nature-related arts, crafts, and games and or to visit the Richter Museum of Natural History and Fewless Herbarium to gain hands-on experience handling animal and plant specimens. The camp is free with a goodie bag and food included! We hope you join us.

Explore UW–Green Bay summer camp welcomes Oneida youth, rising 7th–9th graders, to campus for a week of hands-on learning grounded in land, language, and community. Led by the Cofrin Center for Biodiversity’s Andrew LaPlant and Joe Torres, with support from CSET’s Sam Betancur and CCB staff and student employees, campers explore the natural world through immersive STEM experiences. They will investigate native plants, creeks, aquatic life, birds, wetlands, prairies, forests, and even an ancient rock outcropping while meeting UW–Green Bay faculty, staff, and students who care for these ecosystems. In collaboration with the Center of First Nations Education, program leaders plan to intentionally fuse the use of Oneida language into daily activities to strengthen cultural connection and support language revitalization practices. Developed as the next step for youth aging out of the “Explore the Natural World of Oneida” camp, this program strengthens a growing pathway for Oneida learners, building bridges between the Oneida Nation and UW–Green Bay and encouraging future scholars to envision themselves pursuing a degree on campus.

Open to Oneida Nation citizens only.
