Dr. Shariff is recipient of the UW-Green Bay Founders Association Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2002). He regularly serves as a consultant to the World Bank and was the United Nations economic advisor to the government of Nigeria from 1975-1977. He is co-author of: Business Cycles in a Dynamic Economy and some sixty articles in scholarly journals such as the Economic Planning Journal and the Indian Journal of Applied Economics, International Journal of Development Planning, World Affairs: The Journal of International Issues.

In July, 2002 Dr. Shariff delivered the 5th annual International Schumpeter Lecture at the International Institute of Advanced Economic and Social Studies (IIAESS) in Viterbo, Italy. Dr. Shariff is a guest columnist on economic issues for the Green Bay Press Gazette, and serves as advisor for Students in Free Enterprise at UW-Green Bay. SIFE has won numerous awards at regional and state competitions.
