This free, 10-module, at-your-own-pace online training is easy to complete in small pieces, and includes:

  • Forms and dynamics of elder abuse

Safeguarding Seniors: A Guide for Financial Institutions

Free Online Training

3 Hours

This self-paced training is designed to equip financial institutions with essential knowledge and skills to recognize and report financial abuse in later life. Participants will learn to describe various forms of financial abuse, identify risk factors and potential signs, and understand the appropriate channels for reporting suspected cases.

Initially geared for financial planners, the training developers, the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI), granted permission to adapt the training for financial institutions. DFI is a state-level agency that regulates and oversees financial services to protect consumers and ensure fair practices. They can play a role in addressing and preventing financial abuse by providing resources, education and enforcement actions.

This training is for staff at financial institutions throughout Wisconsin. Financial planners should take the original training. Please consult the Administrators Association (NASAA) website to learn more.

  • Know where to report elder abuse
