Course Description

This 4-hour virtual training will focus on meaningful engagement in mental and behavioral health service provision particularly with underserved, marginalized and minoritized populations in order to enhance the ethical principle of social justice, which focuses on external advocacy as well as internal self-examination. As service providers we all bring slices of our intersectional selves to the table which connect with people in ways that are helpful and sometimes ways that are less than helpful.  By examining strategies which promote conscious inclusion and anti-bias we will tackle two entry-points toward more inclusive practice and service provision and thereby augment personal and professional integrity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review, integrate and renew understanding of the ethical value of service, and the embedded goal of addressing social problems.
  • Examine personal beliefs both explicit and implicit, which impact practice and service provision of minoritized poplutations.
  • Examine personal belief regarding the social problem of negative bias and minoritized populations in practice and service provision.
  • Review, integrate and renew understanding of the ethical value of social justice, which challenges social injustice in its numerous forms.
  • Examine and apply strategies which promote conscious inclusion and anti-bias in practice and service provision.
