Course Description

In this session, we will discuss what perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are, what populations are most at risk, and how to screen and assess clients. We will also discuss best practices for treatment, as well as how to identify and address clients in crisis. Finally, we will talk about the use of compassion for ourselves and clients as a key factor in creating a healing space.

Learning Objectives:

  • Name at least three screening/assessment tools for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders
  • Articulate the role of PTSD and birth trauma in the emergence of and treatment for a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder
  • Create a safety plan specific to perinatal clients

About Your Trainer

Ann Jamison

Ann Jamison, MS, LMFT

Ann's passion for perinatal mental health began with the birth of her own son in 2011. Since then, she has completed Postpartum Support International's training for mental health clinicians and served as the state co-coordinator for PSI for the state of Wisconsin. Ann has served on the faculty of Edgewood College's Marriage and Family Therapy Program, and offered workshops and lectures on perinatal mental health for clinicians, doulas, and midwives in the Dane County area. She is passionate about full-spectrum care for clients, and the importance of supporting individuals and families around reproductive mental health.
