Course Description

Engagement of youth and family members in the wraparound process is essential to a positive team experience and the achievement of meaningful outcomes. Learn best practice strategies for effectively engaging youth and family members initially and keeping them engaged throughout the process, including matching the stage of treatment with a youth and family's stage of change.

Learning Objectives
Participants will:

  • Understand the importance of youth and family engagement in achieving meaningful wraparound outcomes
  • Identify common barriers to engagement and explore underlying causes of disengagement
  • Learn strategies to build trust and relationships by “seeking first to understand” youth and family perspectives
  • Recognize and apply the stages of change to better understand readiness for behavior change
  • Match engagement approaches to the youth and family’s stage of change using appropriate stages of treatment strategies
  • Practice engagement skills such as reflective listening, and strengths-based communication
  • Review strategies for quality assurance and review of documentation including plans of care
  • Apply wraparound principles (family voice and choice, strengths-based, cultural responsiveness, and team-based planning) to improve engagement 

About the Trainer

Jessica Beauchamp, LCSW, SAS, SOTS

Jessica Beauchamp, LCSW, SAS, SOTS

Jessica Beauchamp has 18+ years of experience in the human services field. She earned her graduate degree from Michigan State University. Areas of knowledge includes case management, service facilitation, administration, management, counseling, and program development. Jes worked in Community Mental Health (CMH) agencies for several years and in 2016 opened her own private mental health practice.
With CMH she provided crisis intervention services and worked closely with the court system and Chapters 51 and 55. She also worked in several roles within Comprehensive Community Support (CCS), Community Support Teams (CST), and Children’s Long-Term Services (CLTS) programs.

In private practice Jes offers unique services in that a majority of the treatment takes place in the community, nature, or the client home. She also contracts and consults with local practitioners and several agencies around the state of WI.

Jes has presented to a variety of audiences on topics including: wraparound, assessing suicide risk, crisis/safety planning, substance use/abuse, ethics/boundaries, personality disorders, Autism and HIPAA.
