What is Coordinated Specialty Care?

Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) is an evidence-based model for treating early serious mental illness (ESMI) and first episode psychosis (FEP) in young people ages 15 to 25. Rather than a single provider managing care alone, CSC connects participants with a coordinated team — including therapists, case managers, supported employment and education specialists, and family support — all working toward goals the participant sets for themselves.

Early intervention matters. Research consistently shows that getting the right support quickly after a first episode of psychosis significantly improves long-term outcomes, including reduced hospitalizations and stronger connections to work and education.

Learning to Use the Early Psychosis Intervention Services Fidelity Scales (EPI-FS)

The Early Psychosis Intervention Services Fidelity Scales are three overlapping tools that measure how well services follow evidence-based practices for early psychosis. They cover first episode psychosis, clinical high risk, and bipolar disorder. A manual for all three scales is in development, with publication expected in 2026. See Details
