J. Vincent Lowery

As Interim Director of the GPS Program, Vince Lowery assists with student recruitment, program development, staff training, and organizational management, and teaches within the program. Professor Vince Lowery joined the Humanities Department in 2009 after teaching at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for two years. He completed his doctoral studies in History at the University of Mississippi in 2008. He began teaching African American History and Ethnic Studies courses at UW-Green Bay, but he has since branched out thanks to the freedom that the university provides faculty members. His course offerings have expanded to include classes on US Immigration History, the current focus of his research. He has written a variety of pieces of related to immigration programs in the turn-of-the-century US South, and he is currently working on an article on the relationship between these programs and US immigration law.

He also offers a variety of courses on Science Fiction. His SF courses allowed him to lead students through the experience of thinking critically about the greatest television show ever: Doctor Who! Over the last year he has been developing a course on imagined Futures in literature, film, and television, which he is excited to offer as part of the GPS program this fall. When not in the classroom, Professor Lowery spends his time exploring Northeast Wisconsin with his wife and son. Much of his time in the last 18 months has been spent on the diamond, rekindling his love of baseball by coaching his son.
