Overview

Arendt Family – Lakeshore Wind Ensemble Association
Talentship Application

History

Established in March of 1988 through the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc Foundation, Inc. and the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble Association, these cash awards are meant to recognize excellence in music performance on the part of individual students at the University of Wisconsin Manitowoc.

Qualifications

In order to be eligible for these awards, an individual must be a full-time registered student at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Manitowoc Campus. The student must be a member of the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble and participate in each of the 5 concerts during the current concert season. The student must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in order to qualify for this award. One's academic major is not a criterion for the award.

All standard band instruments from the brass, woodwind, and percussion families are included as audition vehicles. Special consideration may also be given to keyboard, harp and string bass (contact the Conductor of the LWE for further information). Students may audition on multiple instruments to demonstrate depth of musical preparation.

Recipients will be notified by mid-September and will be announced at the October Lakeshore Wind Ensemble concert. The recipient will also be recognized at the May concert, at which time the talentship checks will be presented. The award will be forfeited if the recipient does not play for the five Lakeshore Wind Ensemble concerts of the current season.

Auditions

After an application is submitted, applicants will be invited to attend a mandatory audition. Applicants must prepare a solo (no accompanist) of their choice. Selected sight-reading will also be included in the audition.
