Jazz
There are many opportunities available at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay for students who wish to perform and to study jazz. High quality ensembles including vocal jazz, several jazz combos, and two large jazz bands are open to all students by audition. In addition to performing groups, students may participate in a personal selection of the academic courses including jazz improvisation, jazz arranging, jazz and popular literature, jazz history and Individual Directed studies in jazz related areas. Students who have aspirations of becoming music educators can learn about jazz style and teaching techniques though active participation in courses and ensembles.
UW-Green Bay also offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Jazz Studies emphasis for students interested in incorporating the study of jazz as part of a liberal studies music major. Jazz studies students perform a recital at the end of their junior in which they are expected to demonstrate proficiency in general musicianship, jazz style, improvisation and arranging/composition.
