Dr. Illene Cupit, LPC-IT is a Licensed Professional Counselor In-Training and a Professor Emerita of the UW-Green Bay Psychology Department. Illene obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lake Forest College in Illinois, and then received her PhD in Educational Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia. She completed coursework in Clinical Mental Health from UW-Milwaukee and joined the Wellness Center in 2024 and loves working with our students.

Illene provides individual counseling to students in the areas of grief and loss, the life transitions associated with young adulthood, anxiety, depression and social relationships. She also helps to run in-person and virtual grief groups and will co-facilitate for group therapy.

Illene believes that effective counseling is based on a partnership between herself and the student. They work together to access the student’s sources of resilience which can help to figure out personal goals for mental health, effective coping skills, emotional awareness and positive self-regard.

When Illene is not at UW-Green Bay, she loves to travel, cook, read, bike and hang out with her family (including Madiba the cat).
