Emphasis in Art Education
Inspire the
Next Generation
Combine your passion of art with teaching in the art education emphasis.
Art speaks to people. Help them learn how to listen by becoming an art teacher. As a student in the art education emphasis, you'll build a foundation of knowledge about art techniques including 2D and 3D studio courses as well as learn about art history so you can teach and inspire the next generation of students. A majority of our majors go on to teach in all K-12 levels in the region.

67 Major Credits
To graduate, you'll need 120 credits; 67 of those credits will be in the art education emphasis.
Hands-on Experience

In The Know
As a teacher, you'll need to be an expert at all things art. You'll get the chance to hone your skills in our studios.
The Teaching Component
You'll either minor or major in Education in addition to the art education emphasis, depending on what age you want to teach. With your degree combining interests of arts and education, you'll have the support, experience and education of the faculty in both programs as you work toward attaining your teaching license in the State of Wisconsin.
Improving Students' Lives
Research shows that art is proven to make students' lives better.
Lower Dropout Rate
According to the National Endowment for the Arts, students with a low socioeconomic status with higher arts participation drop out at a rate five times lower than their peers.
Social & Emotional Learning
Art classes offer different ways to collaborate and interact with other students, which fuels social and emotional learning—something more important now than ever since the pandemic.
Better Scores Across Subjects
From kindergarteners to high schoolers, students taking a wider variety of art classes had better scores in math, reading and science.
