Emphasis in Studio Art

Cultivate Your
Creativity

Challenge your artistic abilities and assumptions.

As a student in the studio art emphasis, you'll learn how to push boundaries as an artist. You'll start with foundational courses that provide the necessary skills and knowledge to build on as you advance through the program. Ultimately, you'll gain technical and formal skills to understand and master a variety of artistic media; the conceptual foundation to understand the language and history of art making; and the practical experience of exhibiting your art and working with arts professionals. Engage in the regional art community in a variety of ways through visiting exhibitions, internships and collaborative projects. Many of our graduates continue impacting our region as professional artists, entrepreneurs, museum workers, teachers, studio assistants and more.

Art Through the
Archives

Draw inspiration from the Richter Museum on campus.

Thousands of mammals, reptiles, birds and invertebrates. Local artifacts from antiquity. One of the largest egg collections in North America. The Richter Museum on our Green Bay campus is an invaluable resource for local history—one that you can draw upon as a student in the studio art emphasis. In your classes and visits to the museum, you can study textures, shapes and intricate details that can’t be captured in photos.

Enjoy Our Vibrant Art Community

Green Bay has a vibrant local arts community and is located near unique art museums such as the Trout Museum of Art (Appleton), the Hamilton Woodtype and Printing Museum (Two Rivers) the John Micheal Kohler Art Preserve and Art Center (Sheboygan) and the Museum of Wisconsin Art (West Bend). UW-Green Bay Art students engage in the regional art community in a variety of ways through visiting exhibitions, internships and collaborative projects.
