Other Languages

In addition to our major and minor programs in French, German, and Spanish, the Modern Languages Program at UW-Green Bay also arranges instruction in other less commonly taught languages.

Students can learn Japanese through our exchange with St. Norbert College as well as other languages through the UW Collaborative Language Program whenever feasible. In addition to these languages, the Modern Languages program also offers instruction in Arabic and Hmong.

After two semesters of instruction in Arabic, students should be able to achieve an Intermediate Low level of proficiency, according to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standard. With this level of proficiency you should know enough Arabic to travel to the Middle East, reserve hotel rooms, order food, talk about yourself and your family, and the weather all while observing the customs and norms (both Islamic and otherwise) of the region.

More information on the Arabic courses available can be found on the Arabic website.

The Language programs at UW-Green Bay and St. Norbert College have established an exchange that allows UW-Green Bay students the opportunity of enrolling in courses in Japanese at St. Norbert College and St. Norbert College students the opportunity to enroll in upper-level German courses at UW-Green Bay on a space available basis. Participating students receive course credit at their home institution.

UW-Green Bay students interested in taking a Japanese course at St. Norbert College through this exchange register as they would for any other UW-Green Bay language course, although they will need to contact the current Chair of the Modern Languages Program for prior approval.
