Students should have

a 2.75 or higher cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale), and have a goal of entering a postsecondary institution to major in STEM. NOTE: when the RCMS staff review applications for selection the process is holistic and decisions are not made solely on numbers. Recommendations and the student essay help the staff understand the applicant more fully beyond the quantifiables. Life events can sometimes have considerable negative impacts on the numbers but sometimes make for the most resilient and motivated participants.

Additionally applicants should be

ready to make the needed commitment to the partnership that will be established between the student, family, and RCMS staff/faculty. RCMS is a multiple year program and commitment. Multiple years including summer residential and academic year online classes and regional trips allow program staff/faculty to provide impactful services and courses to help participating students ready to be successful in a college environment. We at RCMS take our part of the partnership seriously and we are serious about success and the fun we can have while preparing for a future that includes a STEM Degree.

RCMS is FREE!

RCMS families and students pay no fees. Every RCMS participant has all of his or her expenses paid for by the funded UBMS Federal TRIO Grant. Not only are their expenses covered (instructional costs, food, housing, transportation, recreational expenses, etc.), but students receive a weekly stipend during the summer and a fall and spring semester stipend during the academic year.
