Accounting Internships

The Key to Your Career

Internships open doors to your profession.

Ever wonder how you’re supposed to get the experience employers want for an entry level job? It’s not enough to have a good GPA for your first job – you also have to get hands-on experience through internships. Better yet, you can stand out to employers, earn money and get college credit.

Accounting Internships for Credit

Generally, internships involve about 50 hours of field work for each credit, so about 150 hours for a three-credit internship; this is about 10 hours per week during a regular semester. Internships are to follow these expectations:

Internship Grading

Internships are graded based on the quality of performance and the quality of the final assignment.

Supervised Internship

The off-campus internship supervisor is expected to oversee your work and ensure the position offers educational value and a good experience.

Internship Mentor

An on-campus mentor oversees the internship, meets periodically with the student during the semester, reviews written work and submits a grade.

Write About It

The intern completes discussion posts and a video recording evaluating their experience during the internship and connecting internship experience with material learned in traditional classes.

Internship Evaluation Survey

The off-campus internship supervisor completes an evaluation survey and submits it to the faculty supervisor.
