Writing Support

Develop Writing Skills

We don’t tell you what to write; we teach you how to write.

All writers can benefit from the feedback of a reader. At the Learning Center, we provide you with trained readers who can guide you through understanding academic writing conventions and developing your writing process. We can help with any writing you're working on as a student, at any stage - whether you haven’t written a single word or need to proofread a final draft.

Ways to Engage

Choose between 3 different options for how you want feedback based on your needs.

In-person

Some people find ideas spark easier when working face-to-face. You can work in-person with tutors in 30- or 60-minute appointments that take place on campus, depending on tutor availability at your campus location. These meetings are helpful at any stage of the writing process.

Virtual

Can't make it to campus? These appointments take place online via Teams or Zoom. You'll share your screen with the tutor so you both can look over your brainstorming document or draft. Virtual meetings are helpful at any stage of the writing process.

Asynchronous Written Feedback

If you're busy with class and work, submit your draft and get written feedback from a tutor! These appointments are most helpful if you have an outline or a draft ready to share with the tutor. Tutors will be able to provide feedback on 6 to 8 pages per appointment.

How to Make an Appointment

If you’d like writing support, you can make an appointment with one of our tutors by using the Navigate Student app.

  1. In Navigate, go to the "Appointments" tab and click "Schedule an Appointment."
  2. You'll then select "The Learning Center" and select the type of tutoring support you would like.
  3. Find a day and time that works best with your schedule.

In-person appointments: Meet with your writing tutor on the day and time you selected at the Green Bay campus, on the 2nd floor plaza level of the Cofrin Library, room CL 207, adjacent to the Library Learning Commons.

Virtual appointments: Tutors will share a link to a Microsoft Teams or Zoom meeting so you can connect at your appointment start time. Keep an eye on your UW-Green Bay email account for the link!

Written feedback appointments: There will be instructions from the tutor when you book your appointment. Follow those instructions for sharing your paper with the tutor and Learning Center. You do not attend these appointments in real-time. Your tutor will send their feedback to you in email.

More Support

If you need support when a tutor is not available, use NetTutor. It's an online tutoring service that connects you with assistance when you need it. To access NetTutor, look for "Online Tutoring" within the course navigation menu of each course within Canvas.

"Feedback was very helpful. It boosted my confidence a bit more than when I had first come in. I was able to start working on the recommendations right away."
