Campus performing ensembles are offered for credit and are open to all students with suitable prior experience. Ensembles include the West Shore Chorale, which performs a winter and spring concert open to the public and performs in conjunction with other groups both on and off campus, and the Jazz Ensemble, which offers big band instrumental experience with community musicians. The NEW Concert Band, also in collaboration with community musicians, is offered at Coleman High School for UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus students.
Opportunities for solo performances are available to students in connection with ensemble concerts and in other local venues.
In addition to performance ensembles, non-major music students can choose from a comprehensive selection of classroom coursework in Music, including Music Appreciation, Jazz History, The History of Rock and Roll, and others. Online course options are also available.
The North East Wisconsin (NEW) Band is made up of community members and university students. You can earn credit for participation by registering for MUS ENS 241 in the Student Services. The group meets weekly on Mondays at Coleman High School and has one performance each semester.
Inviting New Members
West Shore Chorale
West Shore Chorale has been performing since the late 1980s and has a unique dynamic, connecting community and university members across all age and ability levels. Some members have been singing for decades, and some are first-time vocalists. All are welcome to make beautiful music together. The Chorale will meet on Tuesday evenings beginning January 23, 2024, at 6:30-8:30 p.m. Rehearsals will lead up to a spring concert in May 2024. The Chorale is directed by Jane Wells, an alumni of UW-Milwaukee where she earned a Master’s degree in Music. Registration cost for West Shore Chorale is $35.00 for the Spring 2024 semester, which covers the cost of administration, including registration and promotion. The Chorale collaborates with the Division of Continuing Education and Community Engagement.
