Brent Jacobs
Brent Jacobs is an Adult Protective Services Specialist with the Sheboygan County Health and Human Services Department. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with a major in Community Health Education. His first position was with a company who provided seniors with rehabilitation services such as physical and occupational therapies. During his time there, he encountered many seniors and adults with dementia and memory care issues. He quickly learned the very basic principles of dementia and caring for someone with the disease.
After Brent’s work there, he became a Program Director at a Memory Care Adult Family Home. He quickly became a certified trainer in CPI’s Dementia Care Specialist Training. With this certification, he was able to lead staff through an intensive training which helped teach them the levels and types of dementia, the appropriate care and communication approaches that change from one dementia level to the next, how to interact with, inform, and support family members of those with dementia, as well as modified the home to be as dementia-friendly as possible.
Now that he is Sheboygan County, he is excited to say that he has been added to the “Dementia Friendly Sheboygan County” initiative. Brent is very excited to become a Dementia Crisis Trainer and looks forward to teaching anyone and everyone who is willing to learn more about dementia and how it can affect not only the lives of those living with the disease, but also those who care and support those individuals.
