Michael Green has served nearly thirty-three years as progressive, municipal law enforcement officer. As the Deputy Chief of Police, Northbrook, Illinois Police Department, from 2000 – 2008, he co-directed strategic operations and daily supervision of a staff of forty-four charged with providing mission critical services to the public. Michael also coordinated efforts with community leaders and Village staff to analyze neighborhood problems and developed problem-solving initiatives to gain public support and build long-lasting community alliances. He has created action plans to reduce the threat of workplace violence, and evaluated the potential for terrorist attacks against municipal buildings and critical infrastructure. He has also developed and presented public awareness programs to reduce criminal activity.
During his time with the Northbrook Police Department, he worked closely with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and the Illinois Triad Committee in the development and implementation of the Elderly Service Officers (ESO) training program. The ESO program provides law enforcement officers, social service providers, and other senior citizen advocates with relevant information concerning the aging process and the vulnerabilities that older adults may experience. The ESO training encourages a cooperative approach in safeguarding senior citizens from domestic abuse and criminal victimization.
Michael has been an instructor for local, State, and Federal training organizations since 1987 and has provided numerous presentations on a wide variety of topics including, reducing elderly victimization, media relations, and communication skills. Since his retirement from law enforcement in 2008, he continues to be an active presenter and instructor and currently resides in Door County. Michael conducted a number of presentations as part of the Door County Learning in Retirement series in 2013 – 2014 and served as the Chairman for the Learning in Retirement Curriculum Committee from 2014-2016.
