GPS Support
Helping You
Learn & Grow
Benefit from layers of new student support.
The GPS program provides an additional layer of support to aid in your transition from high school or the workforce to give you the strongest start possible at UW-Green Bay. Beginning with GB Orientation, you will learn about campus facilities, academic expectations, and have the opportunity to connect with peers, faculty and support staff to begin finding your place in our community. It doesn’t end at orientation!
How Does GPS fit in?
We have built layers of ongoing support leading up to and through your first year at UW-Green Bay.
Tiers of Support
Support for student success isn’t one-size-fits-all. The GPS staff assesses application materials, past academic records, and other success markers to set you up with the level of support that is just right for you.

Support for New Students
Below are just some of UW-Green Bay’s supports for new students:
1. GB Orientation
GB orientation plays a crucial role in facilitating a smooth transition to college life, laying the foundation for academic success, personal development, and meaningful engagement within the campus community.
2. An Immersive Welcome
GB Welcome is an introduction to college life, designed to immerse incoming students in the vibrant and diverse community of our university. GB Welcome is packed with exciting activities, engaging workshops, and opportunities for students to connect with their peers, faculty and staff.
3. Ramp Up to College Classes
First Year Seminar provides an “on ramp” to the University and what it means to be a successful student. Most First Year Seminar classes will have a Peer Mentor paired with the dynamic and interactive courses designed specifically to support incoming students as they transition to college life.
4. Learn the Basics of College
GPS Tools for Success (Comm Sci 150), is a 1-credit course designed to build skills critical to college, career and personal success. The GPS mission is to make the transition to college smoother by layering academic and campus support.
5. Get Help with School Work
The Learning Center (TLC) is where you can find academic course tutoring, writing assistance, and academic success coaching resources as you persist in earning a UW-Green Bay degree. All services are FREE and available for all campus locations.
Meet a Phoenix
"I am very grateful to have the GPS program at UW-Green Bay because it was a very nice bridge from high school-level courses to college-level courses.
There’s this thing in college where it’s like—well you’re independent now. You are independent, you have your own choices, but you have these people here that are happy to help you make your choices a lot easier essentially."

Double major in Early Childhood Education and Theatre Performance, Class of 2025
