First-Year Student Checklist
We have created this tool to ensure you have a smooth start to your first semester at UW-Green Bay
Steps to complete immediately after acceptance
- Set up your UWGB Network account and password
- Your acceptance letter will include your UWGB network user ID and email address. Once you receive this account information, you will need to complete your UWGB Network Account setup by setting your password via the instructions here.
- If you encounter any issues while attempting to set this up, please contact the IT Service Desk at 920-465-2309
- Visit your Wings Portal and complete all "to-do" items
- Your Wings Portal is your "hub" as a new student to view important next steps and to-do items, such as scheduling a campus visit, signing up for your required GB Orientation date, reviewing on-campus housing options, placement testing, applying for financial aid, and more.
- Be sure to take care of all your Wings to-do items as soon as possible so you're ready to begin the semester!
- Check your UW-Green Bay email daily
- All important communication will be sent via UW-Green Bay email.
- File the FAFSA to apply for financial aid, or add UW-Green Bay’s school code (003899)
- It typically takes two weeks post-admission to hear from our financial aid office. If you intend to use financial aid, please complete the FAFSA as soon as possible, or add our school code (003899) if you have completed the FAFSA.
- Explore and apply for departmental and outside scholarships.
- Complete the Housing Application (if you intend to live on the Green Bay campus)
Steps to complete prior to your GB Orientation
- Accept the Payment agreement
- Follow these directions.
- Please note, you will not be able to register for classes without first completing this step.
- Set up academic or living accommodations with Student Accessibility Services (if applicable)
- Review Class Learning Options - There are a variety of modalities available to take your classes. Review the different options to evaluate what is best for you!
- Explore the Academic Catalog for major/minor and general education requirements
Steps to complete prior to your first day of classes
- Get your books
- Get familiar with Canvas, the platform used for online learning
- Explore Resources
- Become familiar with all the resources available to you to support your success in your first semester and through graduation. This includes tutoring, the Writing Center, and GBOSS (Green Bay One Stop Shop). Call GBOSS at 920-465-2111 when you are not sure which resource is best to help you navigate whatever is thrown your way during your time at UW-Green Bay.
- Parking (for Green Bay campus only)
- Students with at least one in-person class are automatically charged for parking in SIS and can opt out if it's not needed.
- Review all the parking details here.
- Finalize your financial plan
- Need help figuring out how to pay for college, or have a question on the status of your financial aid? Call GBOSS at 920-465-2111.
- Join the UWGB Class of 2026 group to get connected with other new students.
- Get your Student ID
- Save the Dates
Summer & Fall 2023 New Students
- GB Orientation (required for all new students)
- After being admitted, please check your Wings Portal to view and sign up for an available GBO date on your campus.
- GB Welcome: September 2-5, 2023 (required for new students)
- First Day of Classes (Fall 2023): Wednesday, September 6, 2023
Steps to complete within your first day and week
- Access your classes on Canvas
- But don’t panic if there is nothing to see until the first day of classes.
- Log into SIS to make sure financial aid has applied to your charges
- Pay any outstanding charges by the due date to avoid late fees. See how to here.
