Phoenix Scholar Award
The Phoenix Scholar Award provides a discounted tuition rate to qualified non-resident graduate students at UW-Green Bay. This program isn't a traditional scholarship or financial aid award. Instead, it is a lower tuition rate offered to qualifying graduate students. There's no need to apply—you'll automatically be considered during the admissions process.
Who Qualifies?
You may be eligible for a Phoenix Scholar Award if you:
- Reside outside Wisconsin, the United States or qualify for the Midwest Tuition Rate
- Are admitted to a program that charges different rates based on residency
- Meet the academic criteria based on your undergraduate or graduate GPA
What's Not Eligible
Students enrolled in online master's programs or doctoral programs do not qualify for the Phoenix Scholar Award, because these programs already charge the same tuition rate for all students regardless of residency.
Award Levels
UW-Green Bay has set criteria for the levels of Phoenix Scholar Awards available to non-resident and international graduate students based on their past academic performance.
Non-Resident & International
If you're an international or out-of-state graduate student, these tuition rate discounts apply based on your past academic performance.

Midwest Tuition Rate
Students from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and South Dakota may qualify for the these discounts.

*GPA (Grade Point Average) achieved on a 4.00 scale or equivalent local grade scale.
How to Receive the Award
You do not need to apply. Phoenix Scholar Awards are automatically awarded to eligible students during the admissions process based on their academic record and residency status. The tuition discounts are applied directly to your tuition charges.
How Long Can I Receive the Award?
You may receive the Phoenix Scholar Award until you either:
- Complete your first UW-Green Bay master's degree, or
- Have taken 60 graduate credits
How Do I Keep My Award?
To remain eligible for the Phoenix Scholar Award tuition discounts, you must:
- Remain in good academic standing (3.0 GPA)
- Continue to qualify for non-resident or Midwest tuition status
