MAJOR OR MINOR IN MUSIC

Rock On

Music not only creates careers, it enriches lives.

Our program welcomes everyone who wants to use music as a creative outlet. As a music major, you’ll dive deep into how music works, while also strengthening your musical talents and potential. Or choose another option to nurture your passion for music like declaring a music minor, taking a music class here and there or joining one of our ensembles that welcomes students from any major.

Bachelor of Music vs. Bachelor of Arts

Our program offers two types of degrees: the Bachelor of Music, which is a professional degree, and the Bachelor of Arts, which is a liberal arts degree.

The Bachelor of Music degree prepares you for a career in music or music performance or for graduate school to continue your studies.

Music Education

The Bachelor of Music in Music Education prepares you for teaching, with Wisconsin DPI licensure available in Pre-K-12 Choral and General Music and Pre-K-12 Instrumental and General Music. Music Education majors select Education as a minor, leading to licensure in their chosen area(s), upon completion of student teaching. See more information regarding Education Program requirements.

Music Performance

The Bachelor of Music in Performance prepares you for a career in music performance or graduate study of instruments or voice.

Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts degree offers the study of music in a liberal arts framework. You have the choice of four different emphases depending on your interests and career goals:

The Minor Falls, The Major Lifts

Nurture your passion for music and bolster your resume by getting a minor in music. We have two emphases in the music minor:

Student Success

One of the greatest anxieties of college seniors is being able to get a job after graduation. Our music programs prepare you for a career in music. In fact, 67% of our 2020 music graduates were employed prior to graduation.

NASM Accreditation

UW-Green Bay is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, meaning we have more access to artistic and educational opportunities for our students.

Meet Master Musicians

You don’t have to live in a big city to learn from musical greats – jazz artists including Lori Bell and Sunny Wilkinson, world-famous opera star Simon Estes and guest artists including Gerrod Pagenkopf and Michael Yudow have all visited UW-Green Bay.

"I majored in music because I loved the people and the happiness that music brings to everyone. Music for me is a means of self-expression that keeps me going through hard times and fuels my desire to become a better person."
