Process to Apply
Application Materials and Submission
The application cycle for admission to the 2025-2026 academic year opens on August 1, 2024!
The deadline is for submission of all materials is December 1, 2024. The steps to apply are described below. The application process includes completion of the following materials:
Universities of Wisconsin Graduate School Application & Fee
Complete the Universities of Wisconsin application and submit admission fee. On the Universities of Wisconsin application, students with a qualifying BSW degree (See Admissions Criteria) apply for the Summer semester. Students with an undergraduate degree in a field other than social work apply for the Fall semester.
The UW-System application allows for options that differ from the MSW Program admission requirements. Follow the guidelines listed below when completing the e-application.
- While the e-application allows applicants to upload official transcripts, UW-Green Bay cannot accept them in that format. They must be sent directly from your former institution(s) to the UW-Green Bay Office of Graduate Studies.
- The application offers the option of entering work history directly into the application or submitting a resume. The MSW Program prefers applicants submit a current resume.
- One section of the application asks for the applicant's personal statement. Do not complete this section. In lieu of this personal statement, applicants must submit the MSW Program Admission Questionnaire.
UW-Green Bay MSW Admissions Questionnaire
The MSW Admissions Questionnaire is an application for acceptance into the UW-Green Bay Master of Social Work program. The questionnaire prompts personal narrative about your understanding of the social work profession, relevant experience, skills and abilities.
- Complete the Master of Social Work (MSW) Program Admission Questionnaire
- For pointers on writing your MSW personal statement, check out our MSW Application Hints.
- Email your completed MSW Program Admission Questionnaire to the Graduate Studies office at UW-Green Bay at gradstu@uwgb.edu.
Professional/Academic References
Identify two professional/academic individuals who are willing to serve as a reference for you by completing a letter of evaluation. The two references you identify should be individuals who can attest to your ability to perform graduate-level/leadership work in Social Work. Applicants who graduated with an undergraduate degree within the past five years are strongly encouraged to have an academic reference from an institution of higher education (e.g., professor or advisor). Closely follow the directions on the Letter of Evaluation form (pdf) which requires you to complete the top section before forwarding to your references. (To save file; right click, then “save link as’ or “save target as”.) This form requires Adobe Reader DC which can be downloaded for free. Letters of Evaluation must be returned directly to the Graduate Studies office at UW-Green Bay at gradstu@uwgb.edu.
*All letters of evaluation/recommendation must come directly from the evaluator. The Office of Graduate Studies will not accept letters submitted by the applicant.
**If evaluators choose to send a traditional reference letter, a letter of evaluation form with Parts I and III filled out must also be submitted for this requirement to be complete.

*Previously Attended UW-Green Bay?
If you attended UW-Green Bay in the past, you do not need to submit a transcript from UW-Green Bay. If you graduated from UW-Green Bay, you do not need to submit transcripts from any other colleges you attended if that coursework was previously transferred to UW-Green Bay. If you attended a college or University for less than 9 credits you do not have to send an official transcript unless the courses completed were prerequisites for the program.
Application Process & Timeline
To be considered for admission to the UW-Green Bay MSW Program, applications must be complete and received by the Graduate Studies office by the stated deadline of December 1. Receipt of application materials is confirmed via the UW-Green Bay Graduate Studies office and can be tracked by applicants through their assigned application number. We ask that you please allow 3-4 business days for your materials to arrive and the system to be updated.
The MSW Program admissions committee will only review complete applications so applicants are encouraged to apply early and accurately follow application instructions. Depending on the number of applications received and available space in each cohort, we may offer a second application deadline in the spring. If a second application date is warranted, it will be posted on this website.
Admission Decisions
Applications are reviewed by the MSW admissions committee and ranked according to the strength of the information in these areas: capacity for academic success, commitment to social work principles and values, and comments from references.
Admission is offered to students based on the information provided, and in the order their application is ranked. While we make every attempt to honor students’ preference for the full- or part-time cohort, the application review process means that some students may not be offered admission into their preferred cohort due to capacity.
Notifications
Approximately 6-8 weeks after the admission deadline date, students will receive official notification of their admission status, via email, from either the Graduate Studies office or the MSW Program. These notifications usually start in mid- to late-January. Following that initial notification, the MSW Program will send several documents, via email, with important instructions for next steps.
These notifications will include whether students are offered admission into the full- or part-time program, denied admission, or placed on a waiting list. Students placed on the waiting list will be notified by the social work office as openings arise.
Confirmations
Students must confirm their acceptance into the MSW program before they are officially admitted. Therefore, it is important to closely follow any directions that are provided in subsequent email correspondence.
Challenge Brings True Growth
