Application Materials and Submission
The application cycle for admission to the 2027-2028 academic year opens on August 1, 2026. Be sure to review our MSW program admission criteria.
The deadline is for submission of all materials is December 1, 2026. The steps to apply are described below.
1Start Your Application
Start your application through GradCAS, UW-Green Bay's new graduate application system. You'll create an account and log in. Add program, search for and select "Social Work (MSW) (Advanced Standing Cohort)" or "Social Work (MSW) (generalist cohort)" at University of Wisconsin - Green Bay.
2Submit Required Materials
Following the instructions provided in GradCAS, submit all required materials directly in GradCAS. In addition to the office of Graduate Studies requirements, you must submit the following program requirements:
- Statement of purpose. Check out our MSW Application Hints.
- Two letters of recommendation from professional/academic individuals. These individuals should be able to attest to your ability to perform graduate-level/leadership work in Social Work. Applicants who graduated with an undergraduate degree within the past five years are strongly encouraged to have an academic reference from an institution of higher education (e.g., professor or advisor).
- NOTE: ALL materials (including letters of recommendation) must be received by the deadline.
3Pay Your Application Fee
Then, you'll complete your application by paying the application fee through GradCAS. The application fee is non-refundable.

Previously Attended UW-Green Bay?
If you attended UW-Green Bay in the past, you do not need to submit a transcript from UW-Green Bay. If you graduated from UW-Green Bay, you do not need to submit transcripts from any other colleges you attended if that coursework was previously transferred to UW-Green Bay. If you attended a college or University for less than 9 credits you do not have to send an official transcript unless the courses completed were prerequisites for the program.
Application Process & Timeline
The MSW Program admissions committee only reviews complete applications. Applicants are encouraged to apply early and accurately follow application instructions.
Depending on the number of applications received, and available space in each cohort, we may offer a second application deadline in the spring. If a second application date is warranted, it will be posted on this website.
Admission Decisions
Applications are reviewed by the MSW admissions committee and ranked according to the strength of the information in these areas: capacity for academic success, commitment to social work principles and values, and comments from references.
Admission is offered to students based on the information provided, and in the order their application is ranked. While we make every attempt to honor students’ preference for the full- or part-time cohort, the application review process means that some students may not be offered admission into their preferred cohort due to capacity.
Notifications
Approximately 6–8 weeks after the admission deadline, students will receive an official email from the Graduate Studies office notifying them of their admission status. These notifications typically begin in mid-to-late January and specify whether students are admitted into the full-time or part-time program, in either online or in-person delivery options, denied admission, or placed on a waiting list.
After the initial notification from the Graduate Studies Office, the MSW Program will send additional emails containing important documents and instructions for the next steps. Students on the waiting list will receive updates from the social work office as openings become available.
Confirmations
Students must confirm their acceptance into the MSW program before they are officially admitted. Therefore, it is important to closely follow any directions that are provided in subsequent email correspondence.
